This was a powerful documentary. It sheds light on his behavior as evidence of him experiencing rejection. He did not meet his biological father until 53 years old! When you don't know who your are and who you belong to, you struggle with who you are and where you are going! We place on different masks and long for affirmation from others. We long for the applause if others, however, when the light go out, when the smoke clears, and when the dust settles, we still long for acceptance! We can become private successes, but private failures! I am excited about Kirk's journey of healing of finding his father, yet healing from his mother denial two DNA tests to confirm the legitimizing of his father! We must all heal from our rejection of people, places, things, and situations! Congratulations Mr. Franklin on finding your origin of existence so you can thrive! Congratulations to those that are reading this in your journey to health, wholeness, and wellness!

Some of the most loved talents experienced deeply rooted rejection and/or abuse or trauma in childhood. Stories like this coming full circle by the grace and mercy of God continue to amaze me. It is amazing that his father was so close in proximity to him and he didn't know. They may have even crossed paths in the grocery store or Walmart in the past and just didn't know! It reminds me of God. We may not be able to see Him, but He is ever so close and has been there the whole time!

It so true that you can have so much public successes but in private you are hounded by your failures.
Kirk's mother is still in her cycle of denial. She too only know their dysfunctional relationship and I would go further to say that she has always had his attention by having that to who his father is.
Now the only way to keep him needing her is to deny the truth and she keeps him in this cycle of dysfunction and trauma. I think by her having focus on not knowing his father then everyone is distracted from her horrible behavior.
But I am glad he took his power back from her.
